Costume

Costume is a very important part or any film but in particular horror films. The slasher genre usually has some kind of killer with a very particular outfit/costume to hide their identity and/or to create fear.
Examples include:

-Freddy Krueger's black and red jumper

-Jason Voorhees' mask

- Ghostface's mask and cloak

Here is a picture that I have drawn
of what I think that the killer in our film should look like. I have also labelled the items of clothing to make it easier to know what is what.

Here is a picture that one of my team-mates created which is
a more detailed version of my drawing using real photographs.

One of the reasons that I though a gas mask was how dehumanising it was and doesn't just hide the persons identity. To me is resembles a demon with its large blank eyes. I explained this to my group and they agreed that this would be a good prop to use. A trench coat automatically came to mind when I was thinking of the rest of the outfit for the killer. This could be partly due to it suiting the gas mask as they are both part of an army uniform. Trench coats are also seen as a very masculine thing to wear and there is a certain mystery to them. Black trousers are very simple yet their is a certain mysterious element to the colour black. Large boots in either a brown or black colour as these are masculine and also very load shoes which is going to be a part of our film when a character can hear the boots. We ere originally going to have the killer wear leather gloves but I liked the idea of giving the killer cuts or burns on his hands as this could be quite scary.

The other character in this short 2 minute opening is the victim. I would like to have the victim wearing a white shirt as white is often a colour associated with innocence. I would also like him to be wearing jeans as this is just something casual that people often wear which will make it feel more realistic.
I think it would be good for his to be wearing something different in the dream then when he wakes up as this helps the audience quickly realise that it was not real.
