Short horror films

I went to a small screening of some short independent horror films recently some of the films include:

Mouse-X - This is a sci-fi dystopian film which cleverly uses the unknown as a way of creating fear in the audience. Some people may argue that this isn't necessarily a horror film and more of a sci-fi mystery but it does have elements of horror throughout.

Here is a short plot summery that I found on IMDB:
Mouse-X is a mystery/sci-fi story about Anderson, a man who wakes in a building with no idea where he is or how he got there, before slowly discovering that in each of the rooms around him are a thousand clones of himself, all of whom woke into the same mysterious scenario. To escape he needs to outwit his 'selves' whilst overcoming the realisation that he is not the only Anderson...

The Stomach - This film gives a twist to what people would expect to see in this kind of film. It may not strictly be a horror film but certainly shares many elements and is based on the ideas of horror.

Here is the lot summary given by IMDB:
Frank's had enough. A spirit medium whose unique and grotesque method of channelling the dead is putting his own life at risk, he wants out. But others, living and dead, have plans of their own. Part body-horror, part ghost-story, The Stomach is a unique tale of Supernatural Noir.

Trench coat purchase

Me and my group went to have a loon in some charity shops for a cheap trench coat to buy. We looked in three charity shops before finding a navy blue trench coat in 'I scout'. It cost £7.50 so we all paid £2.50 each.

Trench coat

I have been looking for a large trench coat for our antagonist (the killer) to wear. Here is a great example of the kind of trench coat that we want for this character but have to find one for a much more affordable price. We will have a look in some charity shops and online for a much cheaper  coat.

There are many reasons that a large trench coat would suit the killer. These are typically very masculine and will help to show this masculinity. It also suits the gas mask very well and together looks very intimidating.

Special FX makeup

Here are some special FX cuts and bruises which I pinned on Pintrest. Some of these have other website which can tell you how to do them but not all of them do.

Here was the one that I like the best and would like to incorporate into our film.

Spotlight Sunday - Placebo FX
I found out how to make this kind of effect by looking it up on the internet. I will need to buy some liquid latex which I will put on the hand and then cut to create the peeling effect. I will also need various colours to make it look more realistic.
I want to do this effect to the actor who plays the killer, I think it will make him stand out among the regular people. It will also add to the dehumanisation of the killer as most people would be bothered if this happened to their hands and it also shows his masculinity.

Mask

Masks are a very large part of horror films, in the slasher genre in particular. I decided to look for a mask that our group could buy for the killer to wear.
When I was looking this mask stood out to me as I feel it looks very sinister and almost dehumanises the killer as well as just hiding his identity.

This is the mask which me and my team felt was very well suited to our horror slasher film.

Tuck Me In

Tuck Me In, could be one of the scariest films of the year.
This is a one minute short film which manages to create suspense in a very short amount of time.
I watched this for inspiration for my film as it can only be two minutes long and so wanted to see how I could create suspense as fear the audience in such a short matter of time.
I think that this is a very clever film and shows that films can be scary without the use of extreme violence like many modern horror film have, this is good for me as we don't have the kind of facilities to create these very gory effects.

My Task

I am studying AS media, me and my group (Matthew Crowther and Ethan de Costres Robinson) will create the first two minutes of a new horror film as well as the titles. As well as this we will all make a blog each where we keep track of our progress and ideas. We must also do a preliminary task which is where we film a short film of someone entering a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character and exchange a few lines of dialogue's We must demonstrate match on action, shot/ reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

My group

My name is Kealan Forrest, I am in a group with Matthew Crower and Ethan de Costres Robinson,
Here are their blogs:
